Academy of Sciences, Institute of Physiology, Czech Republic (Associated Partner)
Main Research Interest
- Biochemical, molecular
and genetic characterisation of membrane transport systems
- Yeast as a model organism
to study transport processes in animal and plant cells; heterologous
expression of transporters in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae
- Non-conventional yeasts – physiological and molecular study of their high osmotolerance
Role/Objectives in Translucent Project
Role of alkali metal cation transporters in yeast cell physiology (regulation of cell volume, pH, response to osmotic shock etc.).
Preparation and phenotype characterization of a series of isogenic strains lacking different combinations of plasma-membrane and/or organelle transporters for alkali metal cations.
